A MONTHLY ODD BLOG

Sept. 2009

How about all the news that swept by us in August? It was hard to keep up…Madonna wrote to the world about Kabbalah and Putin took off his shirt and showed the world what he is made of. Can you picture President Obama going bare-chested on a stallion, as Putin did? But, for some reason, you can see former President Bush doing this, can’t you? In fact, I bet you can see Putin and Bush riding together yacking it up.

Old-timer and aviation enthusiast, Francis Crivello, found the remains of a beacon tower used by Charles Lindbergh on his air-mail route between St. Louis and Chicago. The beacon was originally 60 feet high with 1,250 candle-watts of power. It was part of a series of 24 beacons that would allow pilots to fly at night. “I didn’t think I would see it again in my lifetime,” said Crivello.

A cruise passenger from Washington went overboard and missing on an Alaskan cruise. This makes one wonder…How often do people go overboard on cruises? The answer is 17 so far this year. About 34 million people take cruises each year…So you do the math, the percentage is very low. Yet, 3 people fell from cruise ships in the span of 2 weeks in March of 2007. Now I am rambling on…Basically Do Not Pull a DiCaprio in Titanic if you are going to take a holiday cruise.

Speaking of Alaska, there is an Area 51 type of base there. The rumor is that they are conducting monstrous secret weapons tests.

There is a large patch of tiny plastic particles (hundreds of miles wide) in the Pacific Ocean. This, “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” is being studied by a team of researchers.

Sadly, a story that caught OddArticles eye this month was a fatal stabbing by a teen caught in Satanic worship. The boy’s statement to psychiatrists indicated that the devil had spoken to him and wanted him to kill his parents.

On a lighter side – Canine IQ tests are in and the results are good… for a dog…Not so good for a 2 year old human. Also, crows were found to be able to use tools.

Another article found in Australia looks grim for camels. In fact; if you are a creature with 4 long legs, a large humped back, and one long neck: you might find this story frightening. But Tony Peacock, CEO of the University of Canberra’s Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Center, said: “To be shot from a helicopter is actually quite humane, even though that sounds brutal.”

In other odd news, Clifton Williams let out a big yawn in court and was sentenced 6 months in jail for the weary stretch.

Also, if you thought your lil’ one is expensive – you are correct. In fact, the average child costs $291,570 to raise. And you may want to consider not having anymore since the worlds population is projected to reach 7 billion by 2011. In the year 1900, there were just 1.6 billion people.

And the favorite article of the month comes from Japan. Where Japan’s next first lady says she traveled in an alien spaceship. She claims that while her body is asleep she can take a ride to Venus. She describes this and many more amazing experiences in her book.

Odd news out there for the month of July was very..well odd. We started out with the tragic death of Michael Jackson, and, the soon to follow weird stories. From Neverland Ranch carnival rides to Michael Jackson secretly fathering a 4th child.

As you may have heard,  Jupiter got slammed by an unknown Earth-sized object. Of course, this makes one wonder if Earth is in the path of something like this.  If Jupiter was  hit suddenly within our lifetime, why couldn’t Earth?

New York offered 1-way tickets out of the City to homeless people. 500 have taken the offer so far.  Is this fascism or kind-heartedness?

An astronaut looks down on Earth and notices drastic changes to his planet.  But, I could notice changes to my own house if I came back 12 years after selling it to a stranger.  Does this mean our planet is deteriorating or just simply changing?

Drummer Josh Freese of A Perfect Circle and other fame is pimping himself out to fans.  Can you blame him?  Got to make it where you can, right?

North Korea does it again.  Best place on Earth, right?

Walter Cronkite saw UFO’s? And we are hearing about this now?  Why don’t we hear about this stuff while these guys are still alive?

Remember the 5,000 year old IceMan with tatoo’s  discovered a few years back.  The tatoo’s have now been analyzed and reported.  Seems that humans have been quite wise for some time now.

And finally  floating goo in Alaska?  A lot of floating goo!  What is it?

Oh yeah Bill Gates wants to control the weather.  And you know what Bill Gates wants,  he gets.  Is that a bad thing?  Bill Gates, Hurricane steerer-er.  Maybe he can steer one down Kim Jung Il’s…..uhhh..bottom.
